Sun Ray Ultra Thin Clients
Sun Ray™ virtual display clients provide customers with an interoperable desktop computing solution that reduces the maintenance, upgrade, and operational costs associated with most desktop environments. The Sun Ray is known for it’s motto: “less is more’’.
A Sun Ray Client contains no resident operating system or applications, which makes it virtually immune to viruses and service attacks. And because a Sun Ray Client doesn’t contain a disk drive or any means of persistent data storage, it’s an unattractive target for theft. All applications, documents and data reside on centrally managed servers. The user gains secure access to the environment by using a smart card with PIN or username with password. All information displayed on the screen will disappear the instant the thin client is turned off or the access smart card is removed. By removing the smart card from the Sun Ray, the user can switch workstations but continue in the same session.

SafeSign Identity Client (IC) & smart cards together with the Sun Ray Ultra Thin Clients offer a unique combination of applications for authentication, access control and personalized desktop environments for the roaming user.
Session authentication & roaming
After smart card insertion and Personal Identity Number (PIN) entry the user has immediate access to any desktop of a well-defined pool of Thin Clients. He sees his individual sessions which might also start automatically. With RDP and ICA it is also possible to reconnect to previous sessions, so that the user can resume work at another Thin Client from exactly where he left off when removing the smart card.
Support for different applications
For environments that demand strong authentication, encryption and/or digital signatures, the smart card can hold X.509 certificates administered and accessed by the SafeSign IC middleware. These certificates can be used with Sun Ray Thin Clients for SSL authentication in Mozilla® Firefox and within ICA and RDP sessions. In this regard Windows Domain Logon with smart card authentication is possible through ICA and RDP.
Flexibility with SafeSign IC
Customers are free to start using smart cards with an easily administrable solution for local access control at the Thin Client. Later they can add applications to the smart cards as the demand grows, up to certificates as part of a PKI solution, without the need to change the smart cards or the client infrastructure.
