Windows® Vista & SafeSign Identity Client to boost smart card usage

A.E.T. Europe B.V.’s (AET) strong authentication solution SafeSign Identity Client (IC) has become one of the first middleware solutions for smart cards and USB tokens meeting the quality criteria of Microsoft’s Ireland-based Smart Card Certification Center for Windows Vista.

– A.E.T. Europe B.V.’s SafeSign Identity Client qualifies for Windows® Vista –

SafeSign Identity Client middleware delivers strong authentication with more than 70 cards and USB tokens from more than 10 different manufacturers. As a result, AET is a global market and technology leader when it comes to middleware for cryptographic tokens. Officially supporting Microsoft Windows® Vista is a logical step towards maintaining this unique position, enabling smart card usage at even larger scales.

The SafeSign IC Card Module applet for Windows XP, 2003 and Vista meets the quality criteria for Microsoft’s pilot certification program for smart card minidrivers. Now the integration with the Microsoft® Smart Card Base Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) or Crypto Next Generation (CNP) Key Storage Provider (KSP) is complete.

Today, SafeSign Identity Client based solutions are deployed to easily facilitate scalable secure strong authentication, data encryption, digital signatures, as well as enterprise single sign on and hard disk encryption. These are all key functions to corporate Windows® Vista users, therefore demanding solid and certified software from a vendor with a strong reputation in the field.

“Microsoft has improved the Windows Smart Card Framework in Windows Vista”, according to Jan Rochat, Chief Technology Officer of A.E.T. Europe B.V. “The SafeSign IC Card Module Applet is a minidriver that is completely tested by Microsoft and fully supports the new architecture. The SafeSign IC Card Module Applet is based on the Standard SafeSign IC Applet and thus offers maximal integration into the total SafeSign Identity Client Product.”

The initial qualification has been done based on the G&D Sm@rtCafe Expert 64 Java smart card and in cooperation with Giesecke & Devrient, who uses SafeSign Identity Client as part of their StarSign product range. Several other cards will follow, like the JCOP41 Java Card™.
